Baurettungsgasse members at Green Energy Lab

The open Renovation Forum of Baurettungsgasse visited Green Energy Lab on May 7, 2026: 14 members and friends of the Network for Sustainable Construction and Renovation gathered to share their experiences, with key topics including advancing the heating transition, innovative wall paints, networking, and plans for a center of excellence in the greater Vienna area.

18 May 2026 – Following a presentation by Susanne Supper on the Green Energy Lab research initiative for sustainable energy solutions that has been in existence for eight years and the newly launched Alliance for Green Heating and Cooling innovation lab, there was an in-depth discussion on district heating supply at the Renovation Forum of Baurettungsgasse. Given the technical developments surrounding heat pumps, waste heat integration, solar energy, geothermal energy, and low-temperature heat networks, it will be interesting to see whether, similar to the electricity sector, a transformation of heating networks from a few centralized generation plants to a dense network of decentralized heat generators and consumers can be achieved. Due to the high complexity involved and the necessary investments in pipeline infrastructure and the control of district heating systems, the transition to renewable energy supply is often economically challenging.

The Alliance for Green Heating and Cooling, supported by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund with funding from the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure, focuses its efforts in the heating transition on driving technological, systemic, economic, and social innovations, whether in individual new or existing buildings, in neighborhoods, communities, and cities, or in industry and commerce. Green Energy Lab is happy to serve as a point of contact for projects.

Networking at the Renovation Forum

During the introductions, there was a great deal of interest in networking:

  • Renovation Coach Judith Eder presented the current KLAR initiative “Leerstandshilfe Weinviertel” as well as the hands-on workshop “Bauen mit Hanf” on June 12.
  • Building contractor Andreas Haier presented his solution for practical, precise 3D building surveying.
  • Renovation Coach Magnus Deubner from Atelier Deubner Lopez spoke about his work in the Marchfeld region.
  • Valentin Fischer, a specialist consultant at ProHolz NÖ, spoke about the independent consulting services offered by developers regarding timber construction.
  • Christian Schneider from JamesHardie explained the benefits of Fermacell dry screed systems when used with underfloor heating.
  • Renovation Coach Jon Prix presented the range of services he offers as an architect.
  • Renovation Coach Günter Lagler from Baukult spoke about the specific challenges involved in the sustainable economic renovation of Wilhelminian-style buildings in Vienna.
  • Thomas Laschtowizka from Fundermax, sponsor of Baurettungsgasse’s trade show appearances, spoke about the eco-friendly qualities and wide product range offered under the FunderMax brand.
  • Georg Lux from Wiener Komfortfenster spoke about his innovative window solutions.
  • Roland Hampl from a-plus architekten gave a presentation on his firm.

Michael Maier from MYNT gave a more detailed presentation. Five years ago, the startup began developing a wall paint free of microplastics. The water-based emulsion offers excellent properties, optimal workability, and will soon have an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration). According to Maier, the paint goes further than other products, which could be of interest to painters.

Michael Maier introduces the company MYNT.

Matchmaking Service for Home Builders and Renovators

Since its founding in late 2024, Baurettungsgasse has significantly increased its visibility as an accessible and professionally sound matchmaking service for people planning construction or renovation projects and independent quality, construction, or renovation coaches. In practice, the coach best suited for the role is recommended based on an analysis of the specific issues at hand. The coaches’ independence, extensive experience, and expertise enable them to manage complex construction or renovation projects as general planners from start to finish. The Baurettungsgassen at the Tulln and Wohnen&Interieur Vienna trade shows, in collaboration with Hauskunft Wien, Energieberatung NÖ, and the Vienna Climate and Innovation Agency, demonstrated that there is a great need for independent professional assistance. The innovative 2GRAD2MIN stage format in Vienna was also very well received. Raiffeisenlandesbank W/NÖ supports this work because well-developed renovation concepts offer significant advantages for both customers and financing.

Last but not least, the SanierungsSalon focused on the planned Center of Excellence for Environmentally Friendly Construction and Renovation, KuBuS for short, located in the newly created Blaue Lagune Construction Center. Starting this fall, sustainable products will be showcased there as part of an exhibition open 365 days a year, and expert consultations will also be available upon request. This independent advisory center, open year-round, has the potential to fully and flexibly replace confusing trade shows, especially since the Construction Center’s offerings cover all construction topics. For manufacturers of sustainable construction and renovation products, KuBuS offers the opportunity for a year-round presence in the greater Vienna area.
