The integration of a high-temperature heat pump in the Vienna-Spittelau waste incineration plant enables a temperature increase of around 40 K and thus feed-in into the primary network of the district heating grid. The waste heat from the flue gas condensation is used as a source for the heat pump. The thermal output is around 16 MW.

This case of system integration is unique in Austria and the company is a pioneer in Europe. In Austria alone, there are 11 other waste incineration plants that would deliver a thermal output of over 118 MWth with comparable technology.
