Large Scale Solar Integration Mürzzuschlag

THERMAFLEX DEMO PROJECT: Integration of a large solar system into the heating network

This demo is part of the lead-project ThermaFLEX that has been completed successfully. Download the final report.

Project tasks and goals

Demonstration and proof of concept of a large solar thermal system in combination with storage for the heating network of Mürzzuschlag.

Goals

  • Decarbonising the energy supply and reducing dependence on energy imports
  • Use of storage and intelligent control systems for load management.

Expected results

  • Integration of a large-scale solar thermal system (5,000 m²) and storage (180 m³) into the existing district heating system
Monitoring and optimization of temperature levels and hydraulics for efficient use of solar energy
  • Concept creation of a solar system extension (~ 2,000 m²) including additional storage requirements
  • Integration of a control system to optimize the operating strategies and to use the storage tank synergistically
  • Peak load management through storage

In cooperation with the heating network operator “Stadtwerke Mürzzuschlag”.
